International Yoga Day and District level campaign on Animal disease prevention awareness campaign



             Thoothukudi district Animal husbandry department along with ICAR SCAD KVK conducted district level animal disease prevention awareness campaign on 21st June 2019. Around 80 farmers and 15 extension functionaries participated in this campaign and international yoga day celebrations. Assistant Director of Animal husbandry animal disease investigation unit Dr.SanthoshMuthukumar delivered welcome address then Miss. Anu Nair explained the importance of yoga practices and demonstrated simple yoga exercises to the participants and all the participants learned about the simple yoga practices. Assistant director of Animal Husbandry, Kovilpatti division Dr.V. Shankara Narayanan, Vet Surgeon Dr.S.Boothalingam delivered felicitation address to the gathering. Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Thoothukudi delivered presidential address and asked the participants to follow the disease prevention practices, especially for the control of foot and mouthdisease in cattle andranikhet disease in poultry for which Animal husbandry department is regularly carrying out vaccination in all the villages and all the dispensaries.

             Senior Vet Surgeon Doctor Joseph Raj delivered a lecture on the important infectious disease affecting the livestock and its control measures through vaccination. Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dr.V. Srinivasan explained the gathering about the scientific management of livestock in preventing the disease. Vilathikulam Vet Assistant Surgeon Dr.Karuppasamy delivered a lecture on bird flu awareness then Vet Assistant Surgeon of Thoothukudi hospital Doctor M. Abirami delivered a lecture on the ill effects of oxytocin used for milk secretion and its ban to the farmers. Assistant Director of Animal husbandry, Thoothukudi Dr.JeyaChristy explained about the various schemes implemented by the animal husbandry department for the welfare of the people.

            Lastly farmers and experts interaction happened and in this the farmers were highlighted about the management of infertility in cattle, prevention of diseases among the young ones of livestock, giving first aid to mastitis affected cattle using alovera and importance of harvesting the green fodder at a very young stage, (35 to 45 days) to get good protein and digestible nutrients.
